Dragonfly Farms is run by Katherine and Bruce Johnson who live in western Hanover County on a 52acre farm they bought together in 2007. They then began raising grass fed beef and direct marketing it to their community. As their herd has grown, they now graze over 400 acres of leased pasture in Hanover, Louisa and Orange counties. The cattle are thoughtfully managed, using high-density mob grazing at times, to improve the pastures and the environment. They do not use pesticides on cattle or fields and do not use synthetic fertilizers. The cattle are truly 100% grass fed and grass finished, normally being butchered around 24 months old. The beef is dry aged for 14 days. At their home farm Katherine, an equine veterinarian, boards retired horses and rehabs injured horses. They have two greenhouses where they produce vegetable, herb and flowering transplants for sale with no pesticides or harmful chemicals. They also have a flock of sheep and goats for seasonal lamb and goat meat, normally available fall and winter. Check out the website to learn more. Dragonfly Farms is happy to be able to offer its products to Richmond at the Birdhouse Market.
