Community Produce RVA
Community Produce RVA is an entirely self-producing urban farming operation located in Southern Richmond whose goal is to provide the wider community with fresh, locally-grown produce. The farm is run by a small, diverse staff of passionate young people who hail from varied backgrounds. This diversity informs a shared drive to transform the food culture within various Richmond communities.
Co-founders Noah Smith and Ian Mugerwa both relocated to Richmond from areas where food scarcity wasn’t of much concern. Witnessing the stark differences in food availability (healthy or otherwise) among neighboring communities throughout Richmond spawned a passion to reform the broken system through promotion of self-sufficient, urban farming practices within afflicited communities. Yasmin Easley, hailing from Atlanta, GA, grew up in a neighborhood that faces food scarcity issues similar to many neighborhoods in Richmond. The three have teamed up and moved to a food desert in the South Side and started Community Produce.
